Beyonce Stirs Conversation With Her Blackface Photo Shoot

Beyonce Knowles recently did a photo shoot for L’Officiel, a French fashion magazine, in which Bey will be on the cover.  The magazine is celebrating its 90th anniversary and says they decided to pay homage to African Queens, yet Beyonce has been getting some flack about appearing in blackface.

According to the grio, a rep from L’Officiel made an official announcement about the images:

“Far from the glamorous Sasha Fierce, the beauty posed for the magazine with amazing fashion designers clothes, but also in a dress created by her mother. It is a return to her African roots, as you can see on the picture, on which her face was voluntarily darkened.”

What do you think of  the L’Officiel photo shoot and why is Beyonce getting so much flack for her skin tone?

As an African-American woman and one who works in the fashion industry.I’m appauld by it. If we take the time to read and really embrace and know our history, we can look at past events of black face,a.k.a. Minstrel shows that were performed by white people to mock us through entertaining. For us to do it today and not even have to “paint”, or currently”painting” our face, their are many of our brothers and sister’s in the entertainment business that continue to degrade our history by repeating what the white people already put in the minds of the world of ignorant perceptions. Lastly, they say it’s a dedication to African Queens, well people from Africa and our Queens came and come in all shades of brown, so for her to blacken her face, why? You already are a woman of color, a black woman of color, hello!

I’m a HUGE Beyonce fan and I’m a dark skinned woman. I have no problem with these images.
If anything, she’s embracing the beauty of dark skin even though it’s not her natural skin color.
    It’s art. It’s fashion.

  3. I don’t think she did anything wrong. The Blackface photoshoot was classy and stylish, just like Beyonce is. It was fashionable.

  4. I think the photos haven’t got problem. They are very stylish.
