Morehouse College Celebrates 144 Years of Excellence!

This week kicks off  Morehouse College 144th Founder’s Week Observance. Founded in 1867, Morehouse College is the only all male historically black institution of higher learning in the United States and has educated some of the worlds most prestigious leaders such as Martin Luther King III; Atlanta’s first Black mayor, Maynard H. Jackson, Jr.; writer /director Spike Lee; the late Keith “Guru” Elam of Gang Starr and many other prominent and notable men who have made a difference in this world.

To celebrate the rich history of Morehouse College a schedule of traditional events will take place this week. The 144th Convocation will be delivered by Alumnus Calvin O. Butts, senior pastor of Abyssinian Baptist Church and can be seen via live stream. Yesterday students were able to witness the unveiling of the Black History Month postal stamp, honoring Congresswoman Barbara Jordan, what an electrifying experience!

Besides the awesome panels that will be taking place this week, I’m excited about the concert featuring Angie Stone and violinist Ken Ford at the Martin Luther King Jr. International Chapel. I’m sure this will be an awesome performance.

I miss my college years at Clark Atlanta University…what’s your fondest college memory?
