As many know Atlanta is home to some amazing voices! It’s also commonly known as a city that hosts some of the musics biggest award shows, so it’s no wonder The Gospel Music Association (GMA) chose the historic Fox Theatre to hold the 42nd Annual GMA Dove Awards in Atlanta on April 20, 2011. GMC will air the awards show on Easter Sunday, April 24th at 8:00m. EST

On Wednesday, February 16, 2011 GMA will hold their nominee press conference at the Fox Theatre’s Grand Salon at 10:00 a.m. EST. where Paul S. Morton, Carlos Whittaker, Francesca Battistelli, Lecrae, Mandisa, Third Day and Sisters will announce nominees live. The press conference will be streamed live at Hear It First and GMC TV. This is the first year the show has taken place outside Nashville in 40 years.

If you are wondering who will be the host this year, it will be Daytime Emmy Award winner and co-host of the popular ABC Television talk show “The View,” Sherri Shepherd. Ed Leonard, GMA board chairman said

“We could not be more thrilled than to announce Sherri as this year’s host of the Dove Awards.  Her talent and magnetic personality coupled with her love of music is a perfect fit for the show. With Sherri as host, we will have a blast at the Doves this year!”

Leonard also had this to say about Atlanta:
“The GMA has been working hand in hand with the Atlanta Convention and Visitors Bureau to make sure we have a very eventful and successful awards show debut in Atlanta. This city offers such a diverse musical landscape and we are thrilled to be here.”
I’m guess they haven’t heard of The Atlanta Go To Girl…eh?? LOL..I’m sure we will be introduced soon! Want tickets? Tickets are available through ticketmaster or  at the Fox Theatre Box Office. Become a member too, membership has its advantages. Be sure to tune in…it’s going to be an amazing night!
Is Atlanta becoming the mecca city for music and entertainment?
